Welcome to the area dedicated to all subscribers involved in or affected by Motor Vehicle Repair work. We have tried to represent issues, regulations and guidance in a way, which will be clear and easy to follow.
Working in the MVR industry exposes people to potential dangers and it is the task of the employer (or self-employed person) to identify and minimize those risks.
You will also find general health and safety guidance in the 'A-Z'. This information is relevant to all industry groups regardless of activity. From here you can also access our 'Ask the Expert Facility'.
Together with other sections we hope this will enable you to work more safely in your industry.
Garages and workshops are dangerous places both to work and to visit. You are surrounded by all manner of substances and elements which are not designed to be mixed together. Water and electricity for example and the dangers of mixing flammable liquids (such as petrol/gasoline) with an exposed flame, could result in your overalls, eyebrows, hair, and surrounding environment going up in smoke. Worst you could be risking the life and limb of not just yourself, but those around you!
Not only will you have employees to take care of but members of the public who frequent your premises making use of your services as well as contractors and visitors.
As well as the basic key regulations and Statutory requirements, we aim to provide content that is specific to your activities. All areas however should first be identified and risk assessed and hazards identified. Risk assessment is the first point of call for all good health and safety management.
You will also find useful documentation in your 'Download' area, for:
- risk assessment,
- policy,
- guidance and
- checklists
All content can be downloaded completed and then uploaded into your 'Document Manager' area creating a Health and Safety Portfolio for safe keeping.
Should you have any specific questions you can always 'Ask the Expert'.
